中国国家主席习近平星期三(3月27日)在北京会见了前来访问的美国商界与学术界代表,并合影留念。中国官方媒体发布的照片与视频显示美国访客仔细聆听习近平的发言,并在走路时紧跟习近平的步伐。在北京努力宣扬这场会面的同时,观察人士们则认为这并无法代表美中商贸关系的回暖。

前墨西哥驻华大使豪尔赫·瓜哈尔多(Jorge Guajardo)评论道:“我和中国领导层进行过数不清次数的会面,但我肯定不记得有哪一次的会面被包装成一群人统一步伐地走在一起。中国在视觉展现(和利用访问者)上做得越来越好了。”

“苏联、朝鲜、毛泽东时代的中国都没有做出过这样的努力,看来希望还在,” 哈佛大学费正清研究中心访问学者柏力(Mitch Presnick)表示。

美国国会参议员科宁(John Cornyn)则认为这样的会面会给美国的国家安全带来威胁。
