I don’t anticipate many large-scale protests in the next couple of days—the government has enough coercive capacity to prevent them—but judging from Chinese social media, the loss of political trust among the general population is fairly widespread and likely long-term. … 1

For those who haven’t spent much time in China recently, the density of cameras in this part of Shanghai is incredible. Easily dozens per block. Police will be going through to find the main instigators and arrest them away from the protests. Real bravery to show a face here. https://t.co/77C53znJRj

In a moment of quiet in #China, we can be sure the #CCP is rounding up protestors. Pray for these brave souls. #ChinaProtests

Regarding the current protests in China, basically whatever the path forward, there will be turmoil. Let%27s say the CCP does relax COVID-zero--there will be an uptick of cases that the medical system may not have capacity to handle. Consequently, the economy will also take a hit https://t.co/PqcoUofJJP

Worth saying again that blaming “foreign forces” for the protests not only robs Chinese ppl of the agency required to speak out against horrible policy restrictions. It also makes Chinese security officials look awful. How have foreigners induced protests in cities across China?

they can find foreign forces behind anything they don%27t like even before any western politicians figuring out what is going on and make any statement, of course. https://t.co/qfLD4lxoHS
