North America commemorates National Pollinator Week (June 17 – 23, 2019) by recognizing the irreplaceable role that pollinators – bees, birds, butterflies, bats, beetles and other small mammals – play in the world. One of the most crucial pollinators is the honeybee, responsible for pollinating 30 percent of the world’s crops and 90 percent of the world’s plants. However, bee populations are on a steady decline, threatening healthy ecosystems and the local and international food economy.
